Bungie lays off 220 developers in shocking bloodbath as it aggressively refocuses on Destiny and Marathon- ‘We were overly ambitious’-

In yet another bloodbath during a terrible two years for the games industry, Bungie has announced that it’s laying off 220 people—roughly 17% of its workforce—across “every level of the company, including most of our executive and senior leader roles.”

In a blog post titled “The New Path for Bungie,” Bungie CEO Pete Parsons announced that “Due to rising costs of development and industry shifts as well as enduring economic conditions, it has become clear that we need to make substantial changes to our cost structure,” and shift the studio’s development focus entirely over to Destiny and upcoming extraction shooter Marathon. The new round of layoffs comes less than a year after Bungie’s last bloodletting in October 2023, the casualties of which included veteran Halo comp…

Here’s when Dead Space releases in your time zone-

The Dead Space release time is almost here. The remake of the 2008 original was first announced back in 2021, with developers from the now-closed Visceral Games heading it up, and the first gameplay trailer surfaced in October, last year.

Whether you played the original or are jumping into the sci-fi horror for the first time, you’ll soon be able to return to the Ishimura and face the horrors that the mining ship throws at you. Even the game’s technical director thinks it’s too scary. But if you want to find out for yourself, here are the Dead Space release times, broken down by region.

What time does Dead Space release?

Dead Space releases globally on January 27, so the release time will depend on your time zone. If …

In true D&D fashion, you can bypass Baldur’s Gate 3’s most notorious dungeon with a single, simple spell-

Most people who play Dungeons & Dragons have a story about the time a relatively innocuous, low-level magic spell bypassed a series of complex challenges and difficult fights… because the Dungeon Master forgot that it existed.

Baldur’s Gate 3 has exactly that feature included, and many players have recently been shocked to find that the challenging Gauntlet of Shar dungeon can be mostly bypassed by just… magically unlocking its big scary doors. It’s a difficult task  normally accomplished by finding the Umbral Gems. The gems are each kept within a tough puzzle and fight you must pass to move forward, all of which can be quite hard—hard enough that we have a dedicated guide on how to find and retrieve the Umbral Gems.

However Knock, a level 2 arcane spell t…

Mortal Kombat 1 may be facing some PC performance issues, but hey, at least it’s not the terrifyingly hilarious Switch version-

While I’ve never been sold on Mortal Kombat’s theatrical violence and roster design, I’ve gotta say that Mortal Kombat 1 is rather beautiful. Well, on PC at least. It looks pretty damn good on PlayStation and Xbox, too. Nintendo Switch, however? It, uh, looks like a game alright. If games were total and utter nightmare fuel.

The game’s been out in early access for Premium Edition buyers over the last few days, and tons of clips from the slightly underbaked Switch version have been making the rounds across Twitter. It’s a bit of a double-edged sword, really—fantastic that a game like Mortal Kombat 1 can exist and run on a relatively underpowered bit of hardware, but means sacrifices must be made that veer into the realm of truly cursed behaviour.

The character models ha…

RTX 4090 gaming PCs and even the RTX 4090 itself are starting to drop in price—and these are the best Prime Day deals I’ve found so far-

Well, it’s been a long run of astonishing prices for the RTX 4090—and gaming PCs featuring Nvidia’s monster GPU—but this Amazon Prime Day we’re just starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Prime Day itself doesn’t technically kick off until tomorrow, but as veterans of the sales will tell you, the good deals start a lot earlier than that.

We’ve already got a head start on the discounts on our Amazon Prime Day PC gaming deals page, and I’m pleased to report that the price drops are already well underway. As a result, I’ve already found some great deals on machines featuring Nvidia’s most powerful gaming GPU, and even an RTX 4090 itself for MSRP.

Merciful mana from the heavens if you ask me, as while none of these deals could truly be called…

Nightingale devs are ‘not happy’ with the current state of the game, fixes for disconnections are coming—but the offline mode still doesn’t have a timeline-

Three weeks after the launch of the neo-Victorian survival game Nightingale, Inflexion Games boss Aaryn Flynn says there are aspects of the game the studio isn’t happy with, but that fixes and improvements including a new patch aimed at eliminating disconnections from the game are on the way.

Nightingale got off to a strong start when it launched into early access on February 20, but, like so many other games, ran into trouble with its servers. The situation was made worse by Nightingale’s always-online requirement, even for solo play. The Steam user rating quickly slid to “mixed,” and the concurrent player count tailed off rapidly. It’s not a doom-and-gloom scenario—there are still thousands of people playing the game at any given time—but there’s definitely work to b…

Rainbow Six Siege mouse spoofers scramble to support forums after new anticheat ‘Mousetrap’ unexpectedly kicks in-

“Mousetrap” is an anticheat technology developed for Rainbow Six Siege that’s intended to detect and punish “spoofers”—that is, players who use mouse and keyboard on their consoles in order to gain a precision advantage over people using controllers. Ubisoft announced the system in February and said it was supposed to go live in April, but it may have jumped the gun on that a bit because some Xim Apex users are already reporting that their devices are being detected.

Conventional wisdom dictates that the speed and precision of a mouse makes it inherently superior to controllers when it comes to shooters. Way back in 2010, for instance, Voodoo PC founder Rahul Sood claimed that Microsoft decided against enabling crossplay between PC and Xbox 360 consoles after testing found t…

Overwatch 2 is questioning if one-shot kills belong, starting with Roadhog-

Overwatch 2’s latest patch significantly changes two heroes at the center of the community’s recent discussions around one-shot kills.

Sojourn and Roadhog have had their power reduced just enough to add more predictability to the most lethal parts of their kit. Roadhog’s hook is no longer a death sentence and Sojourn’s railgun shot will now charge at a slower, steady rate, unaffected by Mercy and other heroes’ damage boosts.

While it’s definitely a nerf to both heroes’ ability to quickly kill their targets, it also makes their most lethal abilities more predictable—something Overwatch 2 has been desperately in need of. Getting hooked by a Roadhog or taking a duel with a Sojourn will have a different level of threat depending on which hero you’re playing. If Overwatch 2…
